Established in February 1998 by colleagues and former students of Professor Rutherford, a graduate of University of New Zealand and Agricultural University of Norway at Vollebekk, a leading scholar in the field of soil science and long-time member of the Department of Geography. Last revised in November 2025. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in third or fourth year of any degree program enrolled in an academic plan offered by the Department of Geography and Planning.
