Established in October 2002 by family, friends, Smith Engineering and the Department of Economics in memory of a remarkable individual, Nathan Cowan (1977-2002), B.Sc., B.A. (Economics) 2002. Awarded on the basis of financial need to second, third, or fourth-year students enrolled in Smith Engineering or the Department of Economics. Awarded normally in even-numbered years to students enrolled in Smith Engineering, and in odd-numbered years to students enrolled in the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
